Avril Lavigne - I Will Be

 "I Will Be" is a song written by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne, Lukasz Gottwald and Max Martin. The song, originally recorded by Lavigne in 2007, was included on the Limited Edition of her third studio album The Best Damn Thing, and was only available for pre-order on iTunes. British singer Leona Lewis covered the song for her debut album Spirit in 2007, and released it as her third and final single from Spirit in North America.
The lyrics to Lewis' version of the song are slightly altered; in the middle 8, Lewis sings, "without you, I can't breathe", whereas in the original recording Lavigne sings, "without you, I can't sleep"












Music video

The music video for "I Will Be" began filming on 18 December 2008 in New York City and was directed by Melina Matsoukas, who also directed the international version of Bleeding Love's music video. Chace Crawford from The CW's Gossip Girl stars in the video with several speaking lines.

In the video, it is presumed Lewis and Crawford's character stole a large amount of money, and are being pursued by the authorities. Lewis tells Crawford she can't stay with him, and will someday meet up with him again. After leaving him she gets herself caught by the police and sacrifices herself so he can escape. She is arrested by an NYPD officer, played by Cedric Darius.

Promotion

Lewis previously performed the song on Stripped in Summer 2008 along with "Bleeding Love", "Forgive Me" and "Better In Time". At the time of release in the USA, Lewis gave a performance of the song on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Reception

Billboard magazine stated that "I Will Be" was "paved in gold" and that it was "propelled by a killer vocal that Mariah Carey would adore, gargantuan production that scoops up a heap of cumulus clouds and a chorus and bridge that boast indelible pop songwriting."
